Massive Cape Expo Highlights African Maritime and Oil and Gas Sectors

With early signs of a slow recovery in crude oil markets, industry attention is turning to the growing number of on- and off-shore oil, gas, energy and related maritime opportunities opening up across Africa. Two major co-located trade exhibitions – Oil & Gas Africa 2016 and Maritime & Offshore Marine Africa 2016 – provide a perfectly located platform to showcase products and services, and build business networks in these sectors. The exhibitions form part of the five-in-one Cape Industries Showcase which takes place at the Cape Town International Convention Centre from 13 to 15 July 2016.

“Energy intelligence source Douglas-Westwood reports that Africa will dominate deep-water expenditure over the next five years,” says John Thomson of Exhibition Management Services, organisers of the show. “The continent offers a multitude of energy opportunities which could make it the new heartland of exploration and production in future,” adds Thomson. “South Africa remains the ideal southernmost halfway station as it has been for centuries, serving shipping between East and West.”

Operation Phakisa Boosts Regional Business

Oil & Gas Africa 2016 and Maritime & Offshore Marine Africa 2016 also offer an ideal platform to expand the South African Government’s Operation Phakisa, an initiative intended to leverage opportunities from South Africa’s extensive coastline and strategic location. The potential value of Operation Phakisa has been estimated to reach R177-billion by 2033 and could ultimately create over 130,000 jobs.

“These exhibitions fully embrace the vision and objectives of this ambitious project,” says Thomson. “They provide an effective, versatile networking event to connect with stakeholders in all industries related to the energy and maritime sectors.”

Maritime & Offshore Marine Africa exhibitors include ship builders and repairers, marine engineering and offshore mining companies, fluid technologies and hydraulics businesses, pump, valve and pipe suppliers, fishing industries and many other related ancillary sectors serving off-shore mining, marine and maritime industries.

Now in its seventh year, Oil & Gas Africa is the largest and only supply chain and engineering exhibition covering the Afro-centric oil, gas and energy industry.

Exploring Energy Opportunities
Ongoing discoveries in Africa’s on- and off-shore oil and gas fields are seeing a growing number of operators switching from exploration to production. “In August, major Italian oil and gas producer Eni made a massive supergiant gas discovery at its deep-water Zohr project off Egypt,” continues Thomson. “Earlier this year, Total sold its share in an onshore oil mining lease in Nigeria to focus on development of its planned 44-well Egina off-shore field. Oil & Gas Africa 2016 provides the ideal project intelligence networking venue for project operators and ancillary suppliers to explore business opportunities.”

In 2014, the Cape Industries Showcase attracted exhibitors from 13 countries including the US, Germany, Turkey, Poland and Italy. Visitors from 29 countries attended the show. The biennial CIS event is also a valuable portal for African companies to pursue business opportunities in the Western Cape, as well as new emerging markets in sub-Saharan Africa.

The Cape Industries Showcase (CIS) combines the Maritime & Offshore Marine Africa Expo, the Oil & Gas Africa Expo, the Cape Logistics expo, the Refrigeration and Airconditioning Expo and the Empowertec Cape SME Expo in one co-located event at the Cape Town International Convention Centre, from 13 to 15 July 2016.
