Total production of oil and natural gas in Brazil in February totaled 2,950 million barrels of oil equivalent per day (boe/d). The total oil production in February 2016 was about 2.335 million barrels per day (bbl/d), a decrease of 0.8% compared to the previous month and 4.0% over the same month in 2015 . Since natural gas production totaled 97.7 million cubic meters per day (m3/d), an increase of 0.5% over the previous month and 2.5% compared to the same month in 2015.

Subsalt

The production of pre-salt, coming from 54 wells was 873,5mil barrels of oil per day (bbl/d) of oil and 34.6 million cubic meters per day (m3/d) of natural gas, totaling 1,091 million barrels of oil equivalent per day (boe/d), an increase of 6.0% over the previous month. The wells of the "pre-salt" are those whose production is carried out in the geological horizon called pre-salt fields located in the area defined in section IV of the caput of art. 2 of Law No. 12,351, 2010.

Flaring

The natural gas utilization in the month was 95.2%. The burning gas in February was 4.7 million cubic meters per day (m3/d), an increase of 43.8% compared to the previous month and 44.3% over the same month in 2015. The increased natural gas flaring in the month was mainly due to the commissioning of the FPSO Cidade de Marica platform, which started operations in February.

Producing fields

The offshore fields produced 93.3% oil and 76.6% of natural gas. The production took place in 8,913 wells, 775 sea and land 8,138. The fields operated by Petrobras produced 94% of oil and natural gas.

The Lula field, in the Santos Basin, was the largest producer of oil and natural gas, producing on average 442,700 bbl/d of oil and 20.4 million cubic meters / day of natural gas.

Carmarthen, in the Sergipe Basin, had the largest number of producing wells: 1,038. Marlim field in the Campos Basin, was the maritime field with the largest number of producing wells: 56.

The FPSO City Mangaratiba located in Lula field, produced by means of five wells connected to it, 189,300 BOE/a was more production platform.

Land mature basins (fields / long-term testing of the basins of Espirito Santo, Potiguar, Reconcavo, Sergipe and Alagoas) produced 163,500 boe / d and 132,400 bbl / d of oil and 4.9 million m3/d of natural gas. Of this total, 158.2 thousand barrels of oil equivalent per day were produced by Petrobras and 5,300 boe / d by grants not operated by Petrobras, with 422 boe/d in Alagoas, 1,671 boe/d in Bahia, 23 boe/d in the Holy Spirit, 2,880 boe/d in Rio Grande do Norte and 263 boe/d in Sergipe.

Other information

In February 2016, 310 concessions operated by 26 companies were responsible for domestic production. Of these, 81 are offshore concessions and 229 land. Of the total production concessions, three are in exploratory activity and producing through Extended Well Test (EWT) and other ten are related to areas of contracts containing marginal accumulations.
