The Sostmeier Transport & Logistics Group, headquartered in Osnabrück is handling its warehousing for an automotive supply company at its site near Gie?en with the agile PSIwms warehouse management system from PSI Logistics GmbH since the middle of April.

In an initial step at the Sostmeier site in Pohlheim near Gie?en, the software for efficient warehousing was put into operation. With its agile project method with the best practice approach and the extensive scope of functionality that the warehouse management system offers, PSI Logistics was able to implement the first project step in only four days. This phase includes the storage at the new site with PSIwms’s integrated stacking control system. To accomplish this, first the storage topography and the processes had to be modeled in PSIwms by means of configuration. In addition, the system was installed on the radio data terminals for the operations and then integrated in the Sostmeier computer center. Within just a few days it was then possible to load all the additional processes of the warehouse on the warehouse management system.

The location, opened at the end of last year, is one of a total of 29 sites that the logistics company operates in eight European countries. The company, founded in 1927, operates a 32,000 m² warehouse with access to the motorways A5, A45 and A485, providing contract logistics for an international OEM for the automotive industry.

“Efficient process control, the option of own configuration of the system and a short project period were the essential factors,” says Sostmeier Managing Director Lars Brand explaining the reasons for the decision. “With its scope of functions, PSIwms covers all the processes required for our contract logistics at the Pohlheim site with its standard system.” Along with the stock management and administration, as well as the order completion and picking it especially includes the automated collection of the incoming goods practiced in Pohlheim. A small window was prescribed for the implementation so that Sostmeier can quickly develop and expand the new site.
