Possible Oil Prices Rise Insufficient to Cover Development

Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal said that even if the prices of raw materials, including oil mainly, increase in the future, they will not be sufficient to cover the country’s economic development.

In his speech in the tripartite meeting (government, the General Union of the Algerian Workers (UGTA) and the employers), the Prime Minister also underlined that Algeria’s resilience to the dramatic drop in oil prices, “should, in no way, justify the status quo or the wait-and-see policy that would be inevitable.”

“We must now make an effort together to continue the transformation of our economy towards the creation of wealth and jobs,” he said.

In this regard, he reiterated that growth is expected in non-hydrocarbon sectors, i.e. “in the real economic sphere where public and private companies are the keystone.”
