Petroleos de Venezuela, S.A. (PDVSA) assumed the operational control of six barges used for drilling and well-repairing services at Lake Maracaibo in order to guarantee labor rights of 358 workers that were liquidated by oil services consortium Schlumberger after its contract with PDVSA expired.
Two important companies specialized in drilling rigs operation joined PDVSA to collaborate in the management of these barges, specialized built for complying the intended production objectives at Lake Maracaibo.
PDVSA and Schlumberger currently discuss the terms for transferring these assets in a cordial atmosphere marked by the desire of Schlumberger to keep partaking in major projects at Orinoco Oil Belt “Hugo Chavez” and Lake Maracaibo as well.
Thus, far from withdrawing its operations in Venezuela, Schlumberger has expressed to PDVSA the interest on participating in an integrated services projects to drill new oil wells at Carabobo Block of Orinoco Oil Belt “Hugo Chavez” to be started at the end of September this year, while at the same time the contract of two of the biggest projects programmed by PDVSA is in progress to revitalize more than 1.000 wells at Lake Maracaibo and Orinoco oil Belt “Hugo Chavez”.
