In order to maintain the profitability of refinery operations in Curacao and Aruba, Petroleos de Venezuela, S.A. (PDVSA) is implementing a crude oil blending strategy, using light crude acquired through supply agreements signed with companies with an interest in trading in an environment marked by price instability.

As part of our strategy, and against the backdrop of a challenging economic situation for oil companies, we are acquiring African crude that used to feed refineries in the Gulf of Mexico. As this crude has been replaced by an increase of light crude production in the United States, an opportunity has opened up for us to acquire it on favorable terms.

These agreements have increased significantly the financial performance of PDVSA refineries in Curacao, thus remaining fully operational. They havenít shut down operations as other companies have done in the longest low price cycle of the last 40 years.
