Since the dawn of Monday December 19, operations at Esmeraldas Refinery are suspended due to the earthquakes registered in the province on December 19 and 20. Although the plant has not recorded any damage, the refining activities are suspended for safety in order to evaluate all the units of the refining center. This after the earthquakes recorded on December 19 in Esmeraldas, which have had several aftershocks.
The dispatch of fuels is carried out with total normality, since Refinery Esmeraldas has sufficient stock of fuel to cover the demand, ruling out that there is shortage of derivatives in the province and the country.
José Luis Cort?zar, Refining Manager, has been in Esmeraldas since last Monday, leading technical inspections and evaluation meetings. During the tour, the Manager stated "that the start of the plant is expected to be completed until approximately Thursday night."
Until now and due to the repetition of the telluric movements in the province of Esmeraldas, there have been minor problems, such as a fall of masonry, a situation that does not affect the safety of personnel and Refinery operations.
Due to the repetition of earthquakes, evaluations will continue to be carried out during the following hours to determine that the conditions of the refining center are adequate to operate in a technical and safe manner.
