Russia's Zapolyarye-Purpe oil pipeline, which was launched on Wednesday, will pump 7.5 million tonnes of oil in 2017, said Nikolai Tokarev, the head of Russian oil pipeline monopoly Transneft.

A second oil pipeline also inaugurated on Wednesday, the Kuyumba-Taishet route, will pump around 1 million tonnes this year, Tokarev said, rising to 8 million tonnes a year by 2020.

Transneft deputy head Sergei Andronov said the Zapolyarye-Purpe pipeline was currently pumping oil from east-to-west, but from 2018 would be able to reverse the flow.
