Sparrows Group Seals Crane Management Contract at New North Sea Field

Source: 1/23/2017, Location: Europe

Sparrows Group has built upon our recent success in securing work on newly developed fields with a contract to provide crane management services at the Kraken Field in the UK North Sea.

Over three years, we will provide support during the pre-operations and operations phase aboard the floating, production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel being deployed at the field, approximately 125km east of the Shetland Islands. The Kraken Field is expected to deliver first oil this year.

The Kraken field contract is the latest success for us in securing work upon prestigious new projects on the UK Continental Shelf. During 2016, we also sealed an initial five-year contract to deliver cranes and maintenance services at Statoil’s Mariner development. First oil is expected to be delivered from the Mariner in 2018.

We will maintain four cranes and all lifting equipment on the Kraken field’s FPSO, as well as providing inspection and training services as required. Full onshore management and engineering support for the scope is included in the contract.

Stewart Mitchell, chief executive officer, Sparrows, said: “Winning work on one of the North Sea’s most high profile developments in recent years is great news for the business and shows that there is still success to be had in the region. In the current environment it is particularly pleasing to be winning work at new developments which, combined with retaining our existing work, puts us in a strong position moving into 2017.

“Our experienced operations, maintenance, inspection and engineering teams have a reputation for delivering quality, cost effective services to customers and we look forward to bringing this to the Kraken development as it gets closer to delivering first oil.”

Kraken is a large heavy oil accumulation in the East Shetland basin. The field is operated by EnQuest, which has a 70.5% holding, with partner Cairn Energy owning a 29.5% interest.
