Heavy rains and mudslides that hit Chaco Chuquino caused damage to the pipeline that runs from Campo Monteagudo to Cerrillos Station, 3.5 kilometers from the MGD-24 well, operated by Repsol.

The minor incident of spill, with no consequences to people and with a minimal impact on the environment, occurred on the night of Saturday April 1 of this year, where the fall of a tree also impacted the pipe causing the break.

The approximate area of damage is 90 square meters, but specialized personnel proceeded to raise the contaminated soil and collected it in geo membrane. "Work was done to recover the affected land, removing it from the site to the waterproofed pit for the collection of contaminated material in Battery 4," says a Repsol report.

IMMEDIATE ACTIONS

He moved to the personal place of Safety and Environment and the Spill Control Brigade, closed the valve of the pipeline closest to the affected section, made levees of containment, was placed turril to avoid possible oil fall to the ground, was performed The monitoring of gases in the affected area, recovered the contaminated soil, and moved to an empetrolados pit.

In the same way, three barrels of oil recovered in turril and portable tank were transferred to the API pool located in Battery 3. After this incident no impact was observed on third parties or crops.

We traveled through the area and down the canyon creek to verify spots or oil films, without finding evidence of involvement.

Repsol defined not to use the pipeline until the definitive evaluation of the scope of the effects caused to the pipeline by this extraordinary climatic phenomenon.

The oil spill was quantified in approximately 10 barrels, of which 2.5 barrels were recovered with absorbent cloths, which were transferred to the API pool in Battery 3.

"When the incident occurred, no oil was being pumped. The oil spilled by the break, is oil left in the line (oil pipeline). The spill affected the soil and not any ravine, "adds the report of landslide by heavy rains.

At the moment the integrity of the pipeline is studied to see if it is possible to enable it. Alternatively, it is considered the transfer of the oil in tank. Likewise, it was reported that in the field there is capacity for two weeks without pumping.

The oil sales pipeline from Monteagudo to Cerrillos is of discontinuous use (once a month). The last pumping before the incident occurred on March 23 of this year; The valve is kept open until the total drainage by gravity to the Cerrillos tanks, leaving the pipes depressurized, according to the procedure "Pumping MGD - Cerrillos".
