By 06 votes in favor, the Regional Council (CORE) of Magallanes approved in an extraordinary session the development of the ENAP Wind Farm project, an initiative that will provide 10 MW of power to the generation Electricity consumption in the region, which is equivalent to an annual consumption of 6 thousand households.
With this initiative, the southern region will be at the forefront of the generation of non-conventional renewable energy (ERNC) by increasing the presence of energy from this type of source from 2% to 18%. With this participation, Magallanes will have the largest proportion of NCRE in its electricity system throughout the country.
The Cabo Negro Wind Farm project involves an investment of between US $ 22 million and US $ 24 million, and includes contributions from ENAP and the Regional Government of Magallanes. The initiative already has environmental authorization, which was granted by the Evaluation Commission of Magallanes on Tuesday 14 March.
Ramiro Parra, manager of ENAP Magallanes, stated that "we are satisfied with the approval of this project that is for the Magellanic and for the Region of Magallanes. We have already complied with supplying 100% of the gas consumed in this area, but now we want to go a step further, helping to make feasible an initiative that will diversify the region's matrix with clean and sustainable energy. "
The project considers the installation of 3 new wind turbines of 3.3 MW of electrical power, up to 80 meters high, in line with the latest industry standards. In addition, it will be located on land of the state oil company in the Cabo Negro-Laredo sector.
After this approval, administrative procedures will be initiated to allow the funds to be available. At the same time, technical studies and the progress of the planning of works will be continued to erect the wind farm, which will be built during this year.
