The start-up and commissioning operations were started at the second hydrogen production unit of the TANECO’s Complex of the oil Refining and Petrochemical Plants in Nizhnekamsk.
The facility is designed to produce hydrogen from natural gas with preliminary hydrogenation (hydrotreatment) of the feedstock. Estimated capacity for the hydrogen product of 99.9% vol. purity is 30,000 Nm3/h or 22,000 tonnes per year. The basic design and working documentation has been developed by HALDOR TOPSOE A/S (HTAS) (Denmark). The facility’s construction involved such contractors as ZAO "DEM", OOO "Brand Service" and OOO "Tatspetsneftekhimmontazh".
The new production facility is part of the combined hydrocracking installation (CHI), which was put into commercial operation in 2014. It is worth noting that there is already an active hydrogen production unit with a design capacity for hydrogen product amounting to 135,000 Nm3/h or 99.77 thousand tonnes per year in the structure of the CHI installation.
The hydrogen volume obtained from the additional installation will be used to cover the process requirements of the enterprise: to provide for operation of the hydrotreatment unit for heavy gas oil coking (for the full-swing operation of the TANECO Complex), or for the product delivery to the factory’s hydrogen header.
The new technological facility includes the following process units and assemblies: natural gas treatment unit, hydrogenation and desulphurization unit, steam reformer unit with adiabatic pre-reforming unit, CO high-temperature conversion unit and short-cycle adsorption unit.
