The Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency (the Agency) has allocated $175,930 in federal funds to nine additional recipients to assist their participation in the environmental assessment of the proposed Husky Energy Exploration Drilling Project, located in the Atlantic Ocean, approximately 350 kilometres east of St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador.

The funding was made available through the Agency's Participant Funding Program. It will assist the participation of Indigenous groups in upcoming steps of the environmental assessment, which includes reviewing and providing comments on the proponent's Environmental Impact Statement or on its summary, the draft Environmental Assessment Report and the potential environmental assessment conditions.

The Proposed Project

Husky Oil Operations Ltd. (Husky) is proposing to conduct an exploration drilling project within offshore exploration licenses located in both the Jeanne d'Arc Basin and the Flemish Pass Basin, approximately 350 kilometres east of St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador. As proposed, the Husky Energy Exploration Drilling Project would include the drilling of up to 10 wells within a nine-year period, starting in 2018. The project would allow Husky to determine the presence, nature and quantities of the potential hydrocarbon resource.
