Repsol Chairman Antonio Brufau inaugurated the third edition of the Energy for Europe Conferences organized by the company in Brussels. European Commission Vice-President Jyrki Katainen and other leaders were among the participants.
In this forum for reflection and debate about the future of energy, centered on the theme of “thinking and acting globally,” Brufau underscored the need for a transition by the energy industry toward a more efficient, dynamic and environmentally sustainable model.
In this regard, he reiterated the importance of replacing coal for electricity generation with natural gas and renewables, as well as taking advantage of the latest technologies in making cleaner fuels for transportation.
In addition, Brufau recognized the “years of commitment and leadership that both the European Commission and the European Union have shown in combating climate change,” and said there is still much to be done in order to achieve the objectives set out at COP21.
