Building on its position as one of the top world’s polycarbonate manufacturers, SABIC, through its 50-50 joint venture SINOPEC SABIC Tianjin Petrochemical Co. Ltd (SSTPC) announced that it has awarded the Engineering Procurement and Construction (EPC) contract to build a new polycarbonate plant in Tianjin Province, China.
The new polycarbonate production plant is expected to be operational by 2020. It will leverage SABIC’s world-class advanced polycarbonate technology and maintain the company’s leading position in polycarbonate resin products.
“The new plant will extend SABIC’s leading position as a world-class polycarbonate producer,” said Yousef Al-Benyan, SABIC Vice Chairman and CEO. “We are seeking to expand our polycarbonate footprint to China, and set the stage for further growth in high-performance engineered thermoplastics, offering sustainable solutions to our customer for end-products and processes.”
With its excellent overall performance, polycarbonate is used widely in automotive parts, home appliances, medical products, and much more. With continuing growth in industries such as electronics, automotive, information technology and building materials, significant growth is expected in China’s future demand for polycarbonates and other engineering plastics.
