Eni announced the production start up from the Saxi and Batuque fields, located in deep water some 145 km off the coast of Angola as part of the development of the Kizomba C Project. The Kizomba C Project includes the development of the Mondo, Saxi and Batuque fields, located in Block 15 at a water depth of some 800 meters, through two twin floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessels and a total of 36 subsea wells. Mondo field through the first FPSO started production in January 2008 and is currently producing 100,000 barrels of oil per day.

The twin FPSO vessels are the fourth and the fifth production hubs on Block 15 following Xikomba (2003), Kizomba A (2004) and Kizomba B (2005). The oil start-up from the Saxi Batuque field will add 100,000 boe/day of peak production capacity to the existing Block 15 production. The three Kizomba C fields are expected to reach a total production rate of 200,000 barrels of oils per day and total Block 15 production is expected to total approximately 700,000 barrels a day when the Saxi Batuque field reaches peak production later this year.

Eni is taking part in the project through its subsidiary Eni Angola Exploration B.V. with a 20% stake. Other partners are Esso Exploration Angola (Block 15) Limited (Operator, 40%), BP Exploration (Angola) Limited (26,67%) and StatoilHydro Angola (13,33%).

Recently the Contractor Group of Block 15/06 where Eni is the Operator with 35% stake and Sonangol made an important oil discovery in Block 15/06, near Block 15, which confirmed the high mineral potential of the area.

The start of production at the Saxi and Batuque fields further strengthens Eni's position in Angola where it has been present since 1980 and has an average equity production of some 130,000 boe/day, of which about 65,000 currently coming from Block 15.
