Halliburton at OTC Asia launched Quasar Trio®, the industry's first full M/LWD service capable of operating in extreme environments and the WiFire™ Acoustic Firing Head, a technology that provides an alternative way of activating tubing-conveyed perforating guns. Both offerings earned the OTC Spotlight Award for their innovation.

"Collaborating and listening to our customers uniquely positions Halliburton to deliver solutions that help increase production and reduce costs," said Toby Dixon, senior vice president of the Drilling and Evaluation Division. "This approach informs how we develop technologies and we are pleased to receive recognition for their value across the industry."

As operators increasingly drill to produce in challenging environments, they require technology that can sustain very high wellbore pressure and temperature. The Quasar Trio service surpasses the limits of traditional LWD systems to offer a comprehensive suite of real-time measurements to help operators enhance reservoir understanding, make critical financial decisions earlier in the well construction process and reduce well time.

Quasar Trio can operate in temperatures up to 392°F (200°C) and pressure up to 25,000 psi (172 MPa), moving beyond the 347°F (175°C) limit of traditional LWD systems which force operators to use mud chillers to cool tools or to drill "blind" increasing risk and costs. The service recently saved an operator in Asia-Pacific $1 million and 100 hours of rig time by eliminating trips to replace tools and avoiding non-productive time from temperature mitigation procedures.

Halliburton developed the WiFire Acoustic Firing Head after collaborating with a customer who required a solution to reduce or eliminate the risks and limitations of conventional pressure activated firing heads regardless of well depth or deviation. The technology works by activating perforating guns via a wireless signal sent through the Halliburton RezConnect® well testing system, which provides real-time multizone testing capabilities to improve efficiency, reliability and lower costs.

The high-temperature, high pressure rated firing head helps reduce uncertainty associated with conventional pressure activated tools by letting the operator know the firing head is ready to initiate the perforating event. This provides a new level of safety and helps overcome challenges in deviated or extended reach wells where pressure activated systems cannot function or may cause formation damage.

In a recent job in Latin America, Halliburton improved production in an older formation by utilizing WiFire to help the operator acquire the necessary data to better evaluate their well. WiFire also helped the customer reduce expenses by eliminating the need for traditional coiled tubing perforation that would require extra equipment and rig personnel.
