Qatargas Operating Company is well advanced in restarting Qatargas’ liquefied natural gas (LNG) production facilities following a disruption to production caused by a machinery breakdown outside of the main Qatargas liquefaction facilities which began on January 8th, 2009.
It is expected that Qatargas LNG production will recommence by the end of this week with cargo shipments expected to resume within three days of the start up.
During this time Qatargas has worked continuously with our customers in Japan and Spain to ensure they are well informed of the steps being taken to mitigate and remedy the disruption. The company has declared force majure.
Mr Faisal Al Suwaidi, Chief Executive Officer, Qatargas Operating Company said: "This is an unfortunate machinery breakdown which has resulted in production suspension that impacted the delivery program to our customers. We are working hard to resolve this as quickly and safely as possible. We have been in constant contact with our customers in Japan and Spain regarding this issue."
The machinery breakdown occurred in the cooling sea water supply to the Qatargas 1 plant. A full investigation into the cause of this breakdown was launched immediately to discover the root cause. This investigation is continuing.
