President Nicos Anastasiades of Cyprus said energy is one of the most important axes for the trilateral cooperation mechanism involving Egypt, Greece and Cyprus.
In a joint press conference with President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, he said the three countries are keen on cooperation through signing many deals to make use of natural gas.
The Cypriot leader thanked President Sisi over the hospitality and hosting of the seventh summit of the three countries which highlighted the importance of regional cooperation to achieve peace and stability in the region.
He said the three countries studied more ways to cement cooperation and called for the participation of the private sector in such cooperation through signing a memo of understanding to encourage investments in the three countries.
President Anastasiades said the signing of the agreement on dual taxation prevention between Egypt and Cyprus took place upon the desire of their governments for strengthening economic and investment relations between the two countries.
He called on the international community to exert more efforts to combat terrorism and extremism.
The Cypriot President described Turkey's practices in the Mediterranean as unacceptable, saying Ankara's attempts to explore for gas in areas under the Cypriot sovereignty in Mediterranean are considered a flagrant aggression on Cypriot rights and international laws.
Anastasiades said his country plans to use all diplomatic channels to end the aggression on Cyprus' rights.
He expressed grave concern over the conditions in Libya, Syria and Palestinian territories, calling for respecting the independence and sovereignty of those countries and the establishment of a Palestinian state to live side by side with Israel in peace and security according to the international law and UN resolutions.
He said the tripartite summit tackled the issue of illegal immigration and its economic impact on the region.
President Anastasiades said cooperation among the three countries in the field of energy can play a decisive role in regional cooperation, a matter that contributes to the prosperity and stability of the Eastern Mediterranean.
He said the summit participants stressed the importance of deepening cooperation between Egypt and the European Union, saying the three countries work on fighting terrorism to achieve stability, combat terrorism and end illegal immigration.
He again thanked President Sisi and the Greek prime minister for supporting Cyprus against Turkey's threats.
