Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) has purchased the derrick/lay barge "DB-60", which can perform the pipe installation of subsea pipelaying projects, from J. Ray McDermott Holdings Inc., US.
The DB-60 is a double/single joint pipelay/derrick barge equipped with sophisticated equipment such as a CRC double joint welding system, three units of 150 kip tensioners, truss stingers, and a 1,800-ton crane.
HHI plans to move the vessel to HHI's overseas marine base located in Sharjar, UAE, where the vessel will be refurbished and loaded with materials and equipment and will be deployed for the US$600-mil ONGC Pipeline Project in India, which is scheduled to begin in November 2004.

HHI currently owns and operates three pipelay barges including a semi-submersible pipelay barge, HYUNDAI-423 a combination derrick and pipelay barge, HYUNDAI-2500 and a shallow water pipelay barge, HYUNDAI-289 It also owns the derrick barge HYUNDAI-1000 that is currently in service in China.
With the acquisition of DB-60, HHI has greatly increased its capability for offshore pipeline and platform installation works and intends to further expand its services in offshore activities to accommodate client requirements with innovative and cost-effective investments. While the DB-60 is a world-class installation vessel, HHI intends to make significant improvements to its capabilities in the near future to further enhance its value to clients.
