The Shipbuilding Division received orders to build four tankers from Kuwait Oil Tanker Company(KOTC), a subsidiary of the state oil company Kuwait Petroleum Corp.

According to this order, the division will construct two 317,000 DWT double-hulled VLCCs and two 82,000§© LPG carriers, with the first ship due before the end of 2006.

The orders are in line with KOTC¡¯s plans to comply with the International Maritime Organization¡¯s rule requiring most tankers to have two layers of steel in their hulls by 2010.

KOTC also needs increased shipping capacity to cope with Kuwait¡¯s planned increase in oil exports to customers in countries such as Korea and Japan.
