Survivex is launching GWO wind training in Aberdeen to service Scotland’s fast-growing wind industry and support the oil and gas sector’s energy transition.

More than £100,000 has been invested at Survivex in new facilities and equipment to align the centre to the highest Global Wind Organisation (GWO) standards. As well as all the mandatory safety courses and refresher training required by the global wind industry, Survivex will offer GWO Slinger Signaller and Enhanced First Aid courses.

Survivex’s sister company, AIS Training is the largest provider of GWO training in the UK and trains one in five of the world’s wind trainees at its Renewable Energy Training Centre of Excellence in Newcastle. Survivex will be utilising this knowledge and expertise to deliver its new portfolio of wind courses.

The first courses will run from the 6th July onwards following a robust audit process by the GWO and will adhere to strict safety measures as set out by government to prevent the spread of Covid19.

Paul Knowles, Vice President for Survivex and AIS Training, said: “We are delighted to bring our unrivalled expertise and knowledge in wind training to Aberdeen. Offshore wind is high on Scotland’s agenda from both an economic and an environmental point of view. Statistics from Scottish Renewables highlight the industry’s incredible growth, with more than half of Scotland’s electricity generation now coming from renewables. The sector is also producing enough electricity to supply 90% of Scotland’s electricity consumption.

“Major offshore wind projects such as the Beatrice, Hywind and Kincardine windfarms, are helping to create more than 17,000 jobs in Scotland and developing a skilled workforce to support the industry as it grows is of paramount importance.

“Our extensive heritage in oil and gas means we are also in a position to assist Aberdeen’s oil and gas sector as it transitions into low carbon industries.

“AIS Training has an exceptional record of developing competent and talented workers with the appropriate skill sets for the renewable energy industry. We will be using this extensive knowledge with Survivex to help Aberdeen become a global leader in renewable energy skills.”

GWO Training

The GWO Basic Safety Training (BST) package is now available to book at Survivex. The GWO BST Package includes GWO Fire Awareness, GWO First Aid, GWO Manual Handling, GWO Sea Survival and GWO Working at Height which are the mandatory safety courses required to work in the global wind industry.
