Peterson Achieves Decommissioning Milestones

International energy logistics provider Peterson has achieved two major milestones with the successful arrival of the 14,200 tonne Ninian Northern topside at the company’s base in Shetland and a record 50 structures received for decommissioning in Great Yarmouth Port.

Ron van der Laan, Director at Peterson, said: “We’re delighted to achieve these significant milestones demonstrating our team’s tremendous client focus and engineering capability.

“Peterson offers the full suite of leading logistics solutions, and these achievements further reinforce our position as a trustworthy partner to deliver decommissioning projects in a growing market.”

Operating as the landlord of the Dales Voe site in Shetland, Peterson engineered the above-ground support and collaborated with Lerwick Port Authority to develop the foundations and bunded area to receive the Ninian Northern topside, making this the largest and first single-lift structure to be decommissioned at the site. The 47-year-old structure will be decommissioned by the Veolia/Peterson joint venture with a 97% recycling target.

In Great Yarmouth, Peterson received a record number of 50 structures for decommissioning – the most in the UK – and achieved 50 self-propelled modular transporter (SPMT) transports over a three-year period. The Peterson team has been involved in lifting structures from 40 to 2,750 tonnes since starting decommissioning operations at the Great Yarmouth Port in 2017, including the engineering of quayside set downs and SMPT transport.

A total of £5.35 million has been invested in Peterson sites as the company looks to grow its infrastructure capability to support future client projects.
