Atkins, a member of the SNC-Lavalin Group, has been selected as prime consultant under a $40 million USD contract with San Francisco Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) in California. The five-year contract is to support on-call construction management services that will help update and enhance the BART transportation system, the fifth-busiest heavy rail rapid transit system in the United States.
“This win is testament to the outstanding reputation built by our rail and transit team which has been recognized worldwide for its exceptional client service, construction management capability and cutting-edge digital solutions. We look forward to working with BART as it upgrades and expands its infrastructure, while continuing to provide a quality service for transit riders,” said Philip Hoare, President of Atkins, SNC-Lavalin’s Engineering, Design and Project Management business.
Under the new contract, the project team will provide comprehensive, safety-focused construction management services to support projects across the BART system, including those funded through Measure RR, a $3.5 billion bond measure approved by BART district voters in 2016 to rebuild BART’s aging infrastructure. Services include:
• Program management
• Design review
• Construction management
• Cost and schedule management
• Technical support
• Environmental monitoring
“Our team has been instrumental on some of the largest, most complex transit projects in the world,” said George Nash, CEO, Atkins North America. “With a focus on safety and quality, we will help BART enhance and expand its existing infrastructure, which will reduce congestion and increase transportation efficiency for the entire Bay Area community.”
