The Petroleum Safety Authority Norway has carried out an audit of communication systems for Ivar Aasen.
The audit was conducted in collaboration with the Norwegian Communications Authority (Nkom) between 15 and 18 February 2021.
Objective
The objective of the audit was to verify how Aker BP is meeting the authorities’ and its own requirements within barrier management in respect of the operation and maintenance of communication systems. We placed particular emphasis on aspects relating to onshore/offshore cooperation, competence, emergency communications, area monitoring, ignition source control for communication systems, frequency use and exposure to electromagnetic fields.
Result
Two non-conformities were identified relating to:
• Risk assessment of health hazards from electromagnetic fields
• Involvement of the role of responsible person for communication systems
In addition, four improvement points were identified relating to:
• Follow-up of safety critical equipment
• Marking of mandatory GMDSS equipment
• Training and drills
• Marking of the facility
What happens now?
The report includes a description of identified non-conformities and we have asked Aker BP to report on how these will be addressed. The company has also been asked for their assessment of the improvement points observed. The deadline for this is set at 30 April 2021.
