Equinor – Johan Castberg – Integrity of Structures & Maritime Systems

The Petroleum Safety Authority Norway has carried out an audit of the integrity of structures and maritime systems at Johan Castberg.

The audit was conducted on 22-23 and 25-26 February 2021.

Objective
The objective was to monitor that the hull and associated equipment are being properly upgraded and that the facility can be safely operated in compliance with the HSE regulations. We also wanted to investigate how welding faults and flaws in the STOFAT (Stochastic fatigue postprocessing analysis) module have been addressed.

Result
Three non-conformities were identified relating to:
• Design documentation
• Fabrication quality
• Use of fracture mechanics analyses for reduced cross-checking

What happens now?
The report contains a description of identified non-conformities and we have asked Equinor to report on how these will be addressed. The deadline for this is set at 23 April 2021.
