Clough is proud to announce that the bulk earthworks scope for the Waitsia Gas Project Stage 2 development in the northern Perth Basin has been awarded to Garla Barna Civil & Mining (GBCM), a local Mid West Indigenous business.

Peter Bennett, Clough CEO and Managing Director said: “Clough and the Waitsia Joint Venture (Mitsui E&P Australia and Beach Energy) are committed to delivering a high performing project while providing opportunities to the local community at every stage of the project and this award demonstrates that. Our Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan drives our commitment to improve outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples by providing employment, education and business opportunities.”

John Galvin, Clough Executive Vice President Australia and Asia Pacific, added: “We are looking forward to starting work with GBCM, a local construction business that has demonstrated the capabilities needed to perform this scope of work.”

GBCM was established in 2019 as an emerging regional based Aboriginal services contractor offering project solutions in Western Australia. GBCM respects the land, the traditional owners and the Aboriginal culture in all the areas they work. Their intent is to maximise opportunities for Aboriginal people in the construction industry, creating hope and career paths for future generations.

Fred Taylor, GBCM Director and shareholder, said “GBCM are pleased that Clough have provided our company with this opportunity on a project that is being built on our traditional lands. We are excited to be working with Clough in the delivery of this scope and look forward to the engagement this project brings to the Mid West and the Southern Yamatji people”.

Tanya Johnson, GBCM Director and shareholder, said: “GBCM is thrilled to form part of Clough’s ongoing reconciliation efforts in being engaged on the Waitsia Gas Project Stage 2. We look forward to the many connections, collaborations and engagement this project and the award to GBCM brings to the local region.”

Ken Yamamura, Chief Executive Officer, MEPAU, said: “MEPAU is pleased to see the award of the first major permanent works contract going to a local based company and in this particular case we are even more delighted to demonstrate that GBCM, Clough and MEPAU are now working together to contribute to the region through our flagship Waitsia project.”

The Waitsia gas field is located, near the town of Dongara, approximately 350km north of Perth and 65km south of Geraldton in Western Australia. The Waitsia gas field is ranked one of the largest gas fields ever discovered onshore in Australia and it is forecasted to bring significant economic benefits to the Mid-West region during both construction and operating phases. The Waitsia Gas Project Stage 2 includes a new 250 TJ/day gas processing plant with a 15-year life-cycle that will convey gas via the nearby Dampier to Bunbury Natural Gas Pipeline.
