Petrobras and Gerdau signed a contract for the supply of natural gas in the free trade environment to serve the Gerdau unit, located in Ouro Branco/MG.

This celebration represents the first contractual migration of a client from the captive market to the free market and a milestone in the process of opening up the natural gas market.

"The direct agreement between Petrobras and Gerdau materializes Petrobras' orientation to meet consumer objectives, offering new products and commercial solutions that meet the needs of customers, ensuring reliability, competitiveness, flexibility and satisfaction for both companies ”, says Rodrigo Costa, director of Refining and Natural Gas at Petrobras.

For Petrobras, the contract is part of the portfolio of new products launched in 2021, which offers its customers new commercial conditions, enabling them to better manage their gas purchase portfolio. The agreed contract represents the indexation of a mix of products, effective until 2025.

In addition, the contract provides Gerdau with security of supply and commercial conditions that are more in line with its operating profile, and the start of supply is expected to take place in January 1, 2022 and after the execution of a distribution service agreement between Gerdau and the respective Local Distributor Company, in line with the legal and regulatory evolution of the natural gas market in Minas Gerais.

“This partnership with Petrobras crowns Gerdau's strategy of seeking the development and supply of the gas market in Brazil. In this way, we understand that with the developed market, more players will follow in the same direction and new opportunities will arise”, said Vinicius Moura, General Manager of Supplies at Gerdau.

In this sense, Petrobras and Gerdau reinforce their commercial ties, in addition to their commitment and pioneering spirit in the development of commercial solutions with the objective of enabling an open, competitive, sustainable and increasingly developed natural gas trading environment in the country.
