Var Energi – Goliat – Management of Materials Handling & Work at Height

The Petroleum Safety Authority Norway (PSA) has carried out an audit of Var Energi and their management of materials handling and work at height on the Goliat FPSO. The audit was conducted from 8 to 14 October 2021.

The objective of the audit was to monitor the company’s management of materials handling, and to verify that the planning and execution of lifting operations complied with the requirements in the HSE regulations. We also verified that work at height was performed in compliance with the regulations.

Three non-conformities were identified, concerning:
Maintenance of lifting equipment
Maintenance of work equipment

In addition, three improvement points were identified, concerning:
Arrangements for materials handling in stores
Materials handling of chemical tanks
Cargo carrying units

What happens now?
We have asked Var Energi to report on how the non-conformities will be addressed and for their assessment of the improvement points observed.
