Signing of a Mauritanian-French Cooperation Agreement in the Field of Hydrocarbons & Hydrogen

The Minister of Petroleum, Mines and Energy, Mr. Abdessalam Ould Mohamed Saleh, and the President of the French Institute of Petroleum and Renewable Energies, Mr. Pierre Frank Sell, have proceeded, this Wednesday in Nouakchott, to the signing of a cooperation agreement in the field of hydrocarbons, hydrogen and local content. This agreement is part of the sectoral energy transition strategy and the development of a roadmap for the transformation of hydrogen and the promotion of the local content of related projects.

In a speech he made on this occasion, the Minister of Petroleum, Mines and Energy indicated that this agreement is part of the strategic vision of the sector in terms of hydrocarbons.

He specified that the components of this strategy contribute to the acceleration of the energy transition in the service of development that respects international conventions relating to climate change and access to clean energies.

For his part, the President of the French Institute of Petroleum and Renewable Energies stressed that his institution has maintained cooperative relations with Mauritania for a long time, adding that the terms of the agreement meet Mauritania's great ambitions in the field of energy.

This is how they relate in particular to the development of geological and geophysical studies, support for oil prospecting and research and support through the provision of resources and technical expertise.

La convention stipule la création d’un centre de données pétrolières, d’une banque de données numérisées et d’études sismologiques, en plus d’un centre de prévisions et d’études prospectives et de l’appui à la création d’un laboratoire pétro-physique ainsi que la formation, notamment à télé-distance.

En matière d’énergie renouvelable et d’hydrogène, la convention porte sur le renforcement des capacités dans les domaines contractuels et organisationnels, l’élaboration des études techniques, économiques et financières ainsi que les études relatives aux normes et procédures de transport et de stockage de l’hydrogène et de ses dérivés en plus de l’amélioration des contenus locaux des projets.
