The OPEC Secretary General, Mohammed Barikindo, and the excellencies of the Iraqi ministers of culture, youth and sport, and water resources were present at the ceremony to unveil the OzPEC history book (OPEC 60 years and beyond), which was conducted under the auspices of the oil minister. This was released to commemorate OPEC's 60th anniversary.
The Minister of Oil has said: today we hold this celebration is in Al/Shaab hall on the 60th anniversary of OPEC. This hall has witnessed the foundation of OPEC in 1960 by the presence of founding countries.
Today we witnessed the signing of a book that involves OPEC history, how it has participated in the past decades in keeping market stability and OPEC coherence to reach its objectives and secure the rights of consuming and producing countries.
Ismail affirmed the keenness of Iraq and OPEC , represented by its Secretary General , to hold the book signing ceremony in Al-Shaab hall , so it has witnessed two landmark events: the first is signing OPEC foundation , and the second is the signing and launching of OPEC history book.
For his part, the Secretary-General of OPEC praised Iraq active role in the organization as one of the founders, a country that witnessed the founding conference more than 60 years ago, so it was necessary that the celebration of the organization founding be held in Iraq, but due to the Corona pandemic, the celebration was postponed, and today we meet in a ceremony for signing and launching of OPEC history book ( OPEC 60 years and beyond) which includes the most important historical stages and events that confirmed its distinguished presence in addressing challenges and crises in global markets, and working to achieve balance and protect the producing countries, praising the efforts of the ministry of oil and those who organized the ceremony.
During the ceremony, two copies of the book were signed by the Minister of Oil, Ihsan Abdul-Jabbar Ismail, and the Secretary-General of OPEC, Muhammad Barikindo.. A film was shown about the history of OPEC founding and the history of Iraqi oil industry prepared by the Media Office in the Ministry of Oil, and a film about the history of OPEC prepared by Public Relations Department of OPEC. Also a choreograp show by Iraqi fashion house and a number of musical pieces were presented.
At the end of the ceremony, the Minister of Oil presented a memorial gift to Mr. Barikindo in appreciation of his distinguished services throughout his service in the organization.
