Total Eren Completes 3 Largest Wind Farm in Portugal

GENERG, a NOVENERGIA Group company, 100% owned by Total Eren, a leading France-based renewable energy Independent Power Producer (IPP), completed in July the over-equipment of its 3 largest wind farms in Portugal.

This process added 52.8 MW of wind power to its portfolio of electricity generation from renewable sources assets, with a total installed wind capacity in Portugal of around 500 MW.

These three new wind farms are equipped with some of the largest and most powerful wind turbines currently on the market and position GENERG/NOVENERGIA in a leading position in this area, having been one of the first renewable players in the sector to over-equip its wind farms in Portugal.

The intense and carefully planned construction process is now successfully completed with the installation and commissioning of the last turbine in Gardunha Wind Farm's over-equipment. The table below presents the main characteristics of the 3 new GENERG wind farms:

For the 3 over-equipment projects of Caramulo, Gardunha and Pinhal Interior, with a total capacity of 52.8 MW, the financing, structured under a project finance scheme, was concluded between a sub-holding of the Group that owns the 3 SPVs for these projects and two financial institutions.

In Caramulo Wind Farm, and simultaneously with the over-equipment works, an extension of the existing wind farm was also carried out at the end of 2021 with a new 4.8 MW Nordex N149 turbine added to the 90 MW already installed.

The close coordination with the Municipal Councils and all the local and national entities involved in this process, which always showed total availability and understanding to solve the problems that appeared in the way, were thus also a crucial factor for the success of this ambitious and pioneering process in Portugal.

GENERG's technical teams are currently committed to the completion of a new wind farm in the centre zone of Portugal and are also working on the second stage of the process of over-equipping some of its remaining wind farms, with these projects expected to begin the construction works during 2023.
