A range of transmission pipeline projects of China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) was launched prior to China's 60th National Day. From September 25 to 28, six transmission pipelines, including Northern Xinjiang natural gas pipeline, Huianpu-Yinchuan crude oil pipeline, Shikong-Lanzhou crude oil pipeline, and Shandong natural gas pipeline started construction. It means that the CNPC's pipeline network across the country is taking shape.

Shangdong natural gas pipeline project, jointly invested by CNPC and Shandong government, began construction on September 28. The project, designed to reach 1,024 kilometers, will boast an annual transmission capacity of 11 billion cubic meters. It will be able to fill the natural gas demand of the Shantung Peninsula and Jiaozhou Bay when completed.

Work started on another project, part of the West-East natural gas transmission project supplying natural gas to northern Xinjiang, in Urumqi on September 25. The project, composed of three sub-lines with an annual capacity of 6.6 billion cubic meters, should be operating by the end of the year.

Additionally, two crude oil pipelines, Huianpu-Yinchuan and Shikong-Lanzhon, also began construction on September 25. Construction of the two programs, located in Gansu and Ningxia, plays important role in improving people's livelihoods in the area. The Huianpu-Yinchuan pipeline, planned to be finished on June 30, 2010, will be 141 kilometers, while the Shikong-Lanzhon line will reach total length of 330 kilometers and have an annual transmission capacity of 5 million tons .

All the six projects are being carried out by the pipeline construction management department of CNPC. These projects, upon completion, will significantly boost the economic development of the regions along the pipelines and optimize China's energy structure.
