Iraq to Undertake Offshore Surveys for Hydrocarbons

The Minister of Oil stressed the importance of starting the seismic survey of the marine area in the Arab Gulf, which is the first experience and actual activity in a site in the territorial waters of the Arabian Gulf in its land and marine parts.The Minister of Oil, Ihsan Abdul-Jabbar Ismail, said that the efforts of the ministry over the past years resulting in reaching a contract draft for a joint study with the Chinese company CNOOC in 2019 aimed at setting the points and locations of land and marine exploration.

For his part, the Director General of the Oil Exploration Company, Ali Jassim, said that the plans of the ministry and the National Oil Company aim to maximize the national reserve of hydrocarbon resources and invest it, by engaging the national effort, and joint work with reputable international companies to switch expectations into actual reserves to be added to the national production.

Jassim pointed out the importance of oil exploration in territorial waters, and that OEC is preparing to conclude a contract in the coming days with the Chinese company CNOOC to soon start exploration survey operations.
