Equinor – Snorre B – Process Safety and Safety Barriers

The Petroleum Safety Authority Norway (PSA) has carried out an audit of process safety and selected safety barriers, as well as safe work at Snorre B. The audit was conducted between 1 and 8 September 2022.

Objective
The objective of the audit was to assess how Equinor ensures compliance with regulatory requirements concerning the prevention of major accidents and acute personal injuries in the operation of processing facilities and the performance of work operations where pressure poses a risk.

Result
Three non-conformities were identified, concerning:
• Follow-up of safety function
• Overpressure protection
• Documentation

In addition, two improvement points were identified, concerning:
• Passive fire protection
• Heat preservation of transmitters in the process safety system

What happens next?
We have asked Equinor to report on how the non-conformities will be addressed, and for their assessment of the improvement points observed. The reply deadline is set at 16 December 2022.
