Equinor – Troll B – Integrity & Barrier Management for Flexible Risers

The Petroleum Safety Authority Norway (PSA) has carried out an audit of the integrity and barrier management of flexible risers and associated safety systems and corrosion under insulation at Troll B. The audit was conducted from 7 to 10 November 2022.

Objective
The objective of the audit was to monitor how Equinor is working to reduce the risk of major accidents, with a focus on preventing losses of containment. We also wanted to monitor how the company handles integrity and barrier management of corrosion under insulation (CUI) and flexible risers, as well as the interaction of float and riser movements at Troll B, and ensure that operations comply with internal requirements and the regulations.

Result
No non-conformities were identified during the audit.

Two improvement points were observed. These concerned:
Follow-up of maintenance of emergency shutdown valves for risers
Follow-up of policy documents

What happens now?
We have asked Equinor for their assessment of the improvement points observed. The deadline for reply is set at 15 January 2023.
