The 600MW Karuma Hydropower Project is nearing completion after having successfully
synchronized Unit no.1 of six to the national grid and added 40 megawatts to the national
grid.
On Wednesday 23 rd March 2023 at 16:14 hours, Unit no.1 of 6 at the 600MW Karuma
Hydropower Plant was successfully synchronized to the national grid. This milestone marks
the start of power generation at the soon-to-be-commissioned plant.

AFRY (Owners Engineers), and the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development.
Karuma HPP is made up of six units, each with an installed capacity of 100MW giving a total
of 600MW when all units are operating at full capacity.
Hon. Dr. Ruth Nankabirwa – Minister of Energy confirmed that after the successful exercise,
it is now proof that Karuma HPP can pull power and bring it to the substations without
hiccups.
