Fincantieri Spa announced Wednesday that "Viking Saturn," the new cruise ship built for shipowner Viking, was delivered at its Ancona shipyard.
Like its sister ships, it will be positioned in the market segment of small ships, with a gross tonnage of about 47,800 tons, 465 cabins and the capacity to accommodate 930 passengers on board. "Viking Saturn," tenth in the class, was designed by established naval architects and engineers, including an interior design team from Los Angeles-based Rottet Studios and London-based SMC Design, who gave the design a modern Scandinavian style inspiration, characterized by sophisticated yet functional elegance.
In addition to cabins all with verandas, the ship features spacious suites with expansive overlooks, two swimming pools, including an infinity pool at the stern, numerous outdoor dining options, and a spa designed in the Scandinavian wellness tradition, with a sauna and snow cave.
Viking's ships are built to the latest shipping regulations, are equipped with the latest safety systems, including "safe return to port," and have been certified by Lloyd's Register since the first unit was delivered in 2015. They are also equipped with high-efficiency engines, optimized hydrodynamics and hull resulting in lower fuel consumption, and systems that minimize exhaust pollution and meet the strictest environmental regulations.
Fincantieri's stock is up 0.9 percent at EUR0.55 per share.
