Fraport AG, owner and operator of Frankfurt Airport, and Centrica Energy Trading, a leading European provider of energy management and optimization services, signed a five-year PPA for renewable electricity from wind energy announced, which was developed by PNE AG in Northern Germany.

From July 2023, Centrica will purchase the electricity production from an onshore wind farm recently commissioned by PNE AG and supply Fraport AG with around 63 GWh of electricity generated from renewable energies annually. Located in northern Germany, the wind farm has a nominal output of 22 MW. The electricity generated from renewable energies saves the environment around 24,300 tons of CO 2 e every year.

The agreement is an important part of Fraport AG's procurement strategy for renewable energies. It enables greater energy security, price certainty for energy, and reduced carbon emissions in line with the company's sustainability and net-zero goals. For PNE, the PPA is a good opportunity to supply the clean energy generated in its own wind farms to a leading airport operator in the long term and thus make a contribution to climate-neutral air traffic.

"The green transition in Germany is accelerating, the focus on sustainability and the demand for renewable energy solutions continue to grow. We are very excited about this agreement with Fraport, which underscores our commitment to deliver the green services and solutions necessary for the future growth and the integration of renewable energy systems across Europe are required," said Jan Gibbert, Head of German Origination at Centrica Energy Marketing & Trading.

"Fraport AG has committed itself to an ambitious climate protection goal. By the year 2045, we will reduce CO 2 emissions to zero throughout the group. The PPA with Centrica is an important component of our strategic planning, which is already making a significant contribution to our Align the energy mix accordingly," says Felix Kreutel, Head of Real Estate and Energy at Fraport.

"We are pleased to be part of this deal between Centrica and Fraport with our wind farm, because it makes it clear that corporate PPAs will play an important role in the success of the energy transition," says Nils Kompe, Head of Energy Supply Services and PPA Management at PNE AG.
