Ørsted, a global offshore wind leader, signed a submarine cable supply contract with LS Cable & System for its 920 MW Greater Changhua 2b and 4 offshore wind farms in Taiwan. Ørsted previously signed a contract with LS C&S in 2019 to supply submarine cables for the 900 MW Greater Changhua 1 and 2a offshore wind farms and this time they will also supply them for the Greater Changhua 2b and 4 project.

The signing ceremony for the contract between Ørsted and LS C&S was held at the BEXCO convention center in Busan as part of the “Korea-Denmark Green Business Forum” hosted by the Denmark Embassy in Korea and the Korea Wind Industry Association on May 25, 2023. The signing event was attended by representatives from Ørsted and LS C&S, including Gareth Dooley, Ørsted Deputy Programme Director for Greater Changhua 2b and 4 offshore wind farms, Seung-Ho Choe, Country Manager of Ørsted Korea, and Euigon Ko, Head of Submarine Cable System Sales Division of LS Cable & System, as well as Svend Olling, Ambassador of Denmark to Korea, Sang-hyeop Kim, Chairman of the Carbon Neutral Green Growth Committee, and Kyung-il Park, Chairperson of the Korean Wind Energy Industry Association. Furthermore, this Ørsted and LS C&S contract was introduced at the forum as the ideal example of comprehensive cooperation in the offshore wind supply chain between Korea and Denmark.

Seung-Ho Choe, Country Manager for Ørsted Korea, said, “The contract between Ørsted and LS C&S is another success story in Korea's offshore wind supply chain. Ørsted looks forward to collaborating with capable Korean suppliers on domestic projects in Korea to support the country’s decarbonization journey.”

Over the past decade, Ørsted has collaborated with Korea in the offshore wind sector, working with many Korean suppliers to build offshore wind projects in Europe and Asia, and provided more than 3 trillion won worth of contracts. Ørsted plans to further expand collaboration with capable domestic companies in Korea to accelerate the development of offshore wind projects within the country.

Gareth Dooley, Ørsted Deputy Programme Director for Greater Changhua 2b and 4 offshore wind farms, said, “The contract between LS C&S and Ørsted shows the strength of the Korean supply chain for large-scale renewable energy projects. Through our close collaboration, Ørsted and LS C&S will enable the timely production and deployment of the submarine cables for Ørsted’s largest and most advanced offshore wind farms in the Asia-Pacific region.”

Ørsted has a vision of “creating a world that runs entirely on green energy.” Since it built the world’s first wind farm (Vindeby) in 1991, Ørsted has been the global leader in offshore wind with development, construction, and operation of 28 offshore wind farms including Hornsea 2, the world’s largest offshore wind farm. To date, Ørsted has a 26% share of the global offshore wind market (excluding China) and has installed over 1,900 offshore wind turbines (1 in 4 turbines at sea). Ørsted is supporting the green transformation of the Asia-Pacific region working across markets such as Taiwan, Korea, Australia, Japan, Korea, and Vietnam.
