Stolt Tankers is pleased to announce that its Managing Director Maren Schroeder was elected President and Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of the European International Shipowners' Association of Portugal (EISAP) at its annual general meeting in Portugal, May 15-19.
"I am looking forward to representing our members in Portugal and in Europe,” said Maren, who follows former EISAP president Robert Lorenz-Meyer, who held the position from 2016 to 2023. “Having a flag environment in Portugal that is working well and continuously improving is a very good basis for future growth in quantity and quality.”
EISAP represents the interests of Portuguese and international owners of ships registered with the International Shipping Register of Madeira (MAR) and operating under the Portuguese flag. EISAP aims to promote and develop the MAR, help strengthen Portugal’s maritime sector by supporting the creation of jobs for young Portuguese and European students, and align with international organisations to share knowledge, research and best practice.
Reflecting the improving diversification of the maritime industry, EISAP’s board also includes new Vice-President Laura Langh-Lagerlöf, Managing Director and co-owner of the Finnish companies Langh Group Oy Ab and Langh Ship Oy Ab, and new Secretary of the EISAP General Assembly, Sofia Pereira, a political specialist in Portugal.
Maren welcomed diversity as a means to adapt and innovate: “In ship operations, we have many challenges for the upcoming years, including navigating the path to climate neutrality and the transition to greener fuel alternatives. One particular challenge will be aiming to reach target-oriented solutions while keeping European shipping globally competitive.
"I am looking forward to having a more diverse shipping sector that allows for different perspectives and creates opportunities to come up with new solutions for us to explore.”
