EGAT has accelerated the power system development in Chonburi by opening Chonburi 2 substation to increase power supply capacity and ensure power system security, in response to the expansion of economy, tourism, and investment in EEC.

On July 3, 2023, Mr. Niti Wiwatwanich, Deputy Governor of Chonburi Province; Mr. Boonyanit Wongrukmit, Governor of Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT); and Mr. Kitti Petchsanthad, EGAT Deputy Governor – Transmission System, presided over the opening ceremony of Chonburi 2 substation to officially supply power to Chonburi Province, at Chonburi 2 Substation, Bang Phra Sub-district, Si Racha District, Chonburi Province.

Mr. Niti Wiwatwanich, Deputy Governor of Chonburi Province, said that the economy and tourism of Chonburi Province has continuously grown. The province is a vital strategic area of tourism and an industrial hub for the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) covering Chonburi, Chachoengsao, and Rayong Provinces. The security and adequacy of the power system which meet the economic expansion are the key for long-term development. The opening of Chonburi 2 substation would make the power system of the province secure, adequate, and reliable to meet the increasing power demand in the future.

Mr. Boonyanit Wongrukmit, EGAT Governor, revealed that due to Chonburi’s highest electricity demand in the eastern region and its increasing demand in the future, EGAT has improved the transmission system in the East for the power security. The construction of Chonburi 2 substation was completed. It has supplied power to the system at the end of last May, boosting the power supply capacity in the East and Chonburi Province and enhancing the security of the power system in response to the industrial investment and the expansion of economy, society, and tourism.

Located in a 69-rai area, the 230 kV Chonburi 2 substation comprises switchyard, advanced GIS system building, and secured control center connecting to Phan Thong, Ao Phai, and Bo Win substations in Chonburi Province.
