Echion’s successful work in building awareness of our innovative anode material, XNO® and the development of important customer relationships, in the crucial battery market of South Korea has been recognised by one of the country’s leading business papers, the Korea Economic Daily (????). Full article below.

Echion Technologies, a British battery company, announced on the 27th that it has developed niobium (Nb)-based 'XNO anode material' and entered the Korean market.

The anode material helps lithium-ion cell manufacturers safely manufacture large-scale batteries that guarantee long life and high-speed charging, the company emphasized. Echion Technology is conducting related tests with major Korean battery manufacturers and heavy equipment electrification companies.

Echion Technology's XNO anode material overcomes the limitations of existing lithium-ion batteries and is characterized by providing high-speed charging, high energy density, and long lifespan based on niobium. It can be used in industrial vehicles such as trains, buses, mining trucks, and construction vehicles. A company official said,

“It is not easy to apply general electric vehicle battery technology to industrial vehicles as it is.” You need a battery that's more than twice as big," he explained. There is also a limit to the charging power density, so it is necessary to use a much heavier and bulkier extra-large battery. Lithium-titanium oxide (LTO) batteries are applied to heavy equipment due to their rapid charging capability and long lifespan but cannot provide the energy density required for long-distance transportation. The anode material that appeared as an alternative is the XNO anode material based on niobium mixed oxide. The company explains that it can effectively help decarbonize heavy equipment and industrial equipment at a lower cost (kWh/cycle) than conventional lithium titanium oxide batteries.

It is attracting attention as a large-scale supplier of niobium anode materials at the gigawatt level through partnership with global niobium supplier, CBMM.

A company official said, “XNO anode materials were mainly developed for large vehicles such as transport trucks, trains, and construction vehicles, but it is expected to expand to the passenger car market in the future.” We will continue to develop our battery technology.”
