Elia is currently strengthening the Liefkenshoek – Mercator high-voltage line (380kV) as part of Brabo III. During the night of December 8 to 9, we will remove the conductors that span the E17 near the Haasdonk exit. The motorway will therefore be completely closed between the entrances and exits of Sint-Niklaas and Kruibeke between 11:00 PM and 4:00 AM.
E17 diversion during demolition works
Since the end of August, Elia has been demolishing the existing high-voltage line (150kV) between Liefkenshoek and the Mercator high-voltage station in Kruibeke in order to rebuild it at the same location as a new reinforced high-voltage line (380kV). The works are currently taking place in Haasdonk, where eight old conductors are being loosened between two existing masts, laid on the ground, and then pulled over the highway (E17).
Because the high-voltage cables cross the E17, car and freight traffic will be disrupted during the night of December 8 to 9. In consultation with the police, the Roads and Traffic Agency and the municipalities in the area, it was decided to completely stop traffic on the E17 between the entrances and exits of Sint-Niklaas and Kruibeke in both directions. This way, the safety of both road users and the operating teams is guaranteed.
Diversions apply for traffic towards Antwerp or Ghent between the complexes of Sint-Niklaas (15) and that of Kruibeke (16) on the E17. For longer distances, we request that you avoid the E17 and follow a different route.
