IHI Power Services Corp. (IPSC), a leading owner and operator of power plants across the U.S., approaches 2024 with a laundry list of exceptional achievements under its belt. From receiving prestigious honors for its green business initiatives to forming innovative partnerships and implementing strategic leadership changes to align with its ambitious go-forward strategy, the company saw tremendous outcomes as a result of its 2023 tactical focus on sustainability and growth.
IPSC kicked off the year by being named the “Green/Sustainability Company of the Year” at the 28th annual Association for Corporate Growth (ACG) Orange County Awards. The accolade recognizes one company showcasing environmental stewardship and excellence through unique products, manufacturing processes, services or internal business operations. IPSC was commended for its impressive and lengthy list of organizational accomplishments, including a seven-plant renewable biomass portfolio; the largest battery energy storage system project for remote operations center (ROC) monitoring (Gemini 1.6 GW); three gas turbine ROC plants for the Electric Reliability Council of Texas; a state-of-the-art e-waste recovery plant in Carlsbad, Calif; an MoU for the largest wood waste to sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) project in Louisiana and more.
The power plant owner and operator showed no signs of a slowdown in Q3 and Q4, with the announcement of two sustainability-forward partnerships which expanded the company’s portfolio to 50 facilities, 15 gigawatts of generation and over 700 employees. In July, IPSC was selected by Northwest Advanced Bio-Fuels, LLC to provide pre- and post-development operational support for its upcoming 2nd generation cellulosic renewable bio-jet fuel production plant located in the Columbia River Corridor— the first-ever SAF facility to place roots in the Pacific Northwest region. Shortly after, IPSC strengthened its ties with its female-led investment partner Panamint Capital by securing a second O&M and asset management services project for Sunnyside Cogeneration Associates’ waste coal-fired power generation facility in Carbon County, Utah. Such expansive commitments exemplify the unmatched trust the industry has in IPSC and its devoted team of energy professionals.
IPSC’s deliberate 2023 footprint expansion into renewable generation has been crucial to positioning it at the forefront of the power industry. Its commitment extends to sectors like SAF, biomass fuel generation advancements and other related technological fields, where the company is determined to make a continued positive impact.
In response to this year’s accelerated demand, IPSC also welcomed in new executive leadership to align with its strategic objectives, including Naoki Kono’s internal promotion to VP of commercial operations and the recent C-Suite addition of Glenn McCombs as chief development officer, among other key organizational changes.
