The European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA) has granted the HØST PtX Esbjerg project DEVEX funding to support FEED and other technical studies up until project FID.
- We are extremely pleased to share, that HØST has officially been invited to now start grant agreement preparation with CINEA and can look forward to receiving up to EUR 13m in DEVEX funding. The positive result should be seen as recognition by the EU of the maturity of the project and the high-quality work carried out across the different project work streams since 2021, says David Dupont-Mouritzen, Project Director of HØST PtX Esbjerg.
Kick-starting the Danish-German hydrogen
The grant is the result of a CEF application submitted by HØST in October 2024. This was made possible on the back of HØST’s status as a Project of Common Interest (PCI), which includes cross-border infrastructure projects that link the energy systems of EU countries, to help the EU achieve its energy policy and climate objectives: affordable, secure and sustainable energy for all citizens and the long-term decarbonisation of the economy in accordance with the Paris Agreement. The grant award further demonstrates that HØST has the required project fundamentals in place to play a key role in kick-starting the Danish-German hydrogen economy and concretely support to EU decarbonization goals.
Progressing development towards FID
The CEF grant will contribute to the HØST DEVEX budget, specifically supporting FEED and other technical studies up until project FID, envisioned in H2 2026. The grant and nod from the European Commission adds further tailwind to the positive news on the Danish hydrogen backbone anticipated to connect to Germany by 2030, placing HØST in a good position to continue progressing its development towards FID. The next steps will include preparation of grant data and annexes before the signature of the actual grant agreement can take place.
In total, the EU Commission will allocate EUR 1.25bn in grants, divided onto 41 cross-border energy infrastructure projects, including electricity grid, hydrogen infrastructure and CO2 infrastructure projects. HØST is the only Danish Power-to-X project to have received a grant.
