Holland Shipyards Group is pleased to announce the successful christening of two newly built MPP coasters: Waalvliet and Rijnvliet. The ceremony took place on 17 April 2025 at our yard in Werkendam.

These vessels are part of a new series of shortsea coasters commissioned by Hartel Shipping & Chartering, part of the Hudig & Veder Group. Purpose-built to meet the operational demands of the European shortsea market, they combine flexibility, cargo efficiency and robust construction.

Purpose-built for multipurpose logistics

The Waalvliet and Rijnvliet are 98-meter long coasters equipped to transport a wide variety of cargoes throughout Europe. With a deadweight of approximately 4,200 tons and cargo hold with tween deck, the vessels are tailored for optimal loading flexibility, capable of carrying bulk, breakbulk, and containers. The vessels are equipped with a moveable bulkhead and pontoon hatch covers, enabling them to seamlessly adapt to different cargo requirements.

Built with an eye on tomorrow

Consistent with Holland Shipyards Group’s commitment to building greener vessels, the coasters feature a fuel-efficient diesel-electric drivetrain and are designed to facilitate future upgrades to more sustainable propulsion technologies. This forward-compatible design underlines both companies’ ambition to reduce environmental impact in the maritime logistics sector.

We thank Hartel Shipping & Chartering for their trust and look forward to seeing both vessels in action across the European shortsea network.
