The takeover by Algeria of its hydrocarbon deposits on February 24, 1971, brought the national company Sonatrach to take up the challenges imposed, said Minister of Energy and Mines Youcef Yousfi stressing that the oil company is now fully integrated from upstream activity to marketing.
Sonatrach achieves significant performance and the results of 2013, particularly in terms of reserve replacement, are "very promising," said the minister in an interview with APS on the occasion of the celebration of 43 anniversary of hydrocarbon nationalization.
Concerning the security in hydrocarbon production and especially Tiguentourine gas complex (Illizi) targeted by a terrorist attack in January 2013, Yousfi said that "foreign technicians and experts working in the production sites as well as companies are concerned by security conditions."
The Minister of Energy and Mines reiterated and confirmed that the Algerian security services make every effort, human and material, to ensure that all facilities and staff working there are completely secure.
"The redeployment of these efforts does not concern the field of Tiguentourine, but all energy installations of the country," he said.
"Thus, specific measures are taken with the authorities to prevent such a tragedy from happening again in the future and provide partners with maximum assurance in the safety of their staff," Yousfi concluded.
