RWE Dea Norge AS, operator of production licence (PL)420, is completing drilling operations on appraisal well 35/9-11-S and sidetrack 35/9-11-A on the Titan discovery, 16 kilometres west of the Gjoa Field in the North Sea.

The purpose of the well was to delineate the Titan discovery towards the south and to reduce the uncertainties in reservoir thicknesses and reservoir properties. With the appraisal well, oil was proven in the Heather Formation, the Brent Group, the Drake Formation, the Cook Formation and the Statfjord Formation.

RWE Dea Norge carried out extensive data collection and sampling of the reservoir, including five so-called mini-DSTs. “The well results increase our understanding of the area, which will be useful in the further exploration of the greater Titan area,” said Hugo Sandal, Managing Director RWE Dea Norge. “The well will be temporarily plugged and abandoned, which allows us to re-enter the well. We will further undertake a thorough evaluation of the Titan discovery,” Sandal added. The 35/9-11 A well was drilled to a vertical depth of 3,795 meters by the Leiv Eiriksson drilling unit facility, and reached total depth in the Statfjord Formation. The water depth at the site is 368 meters.

RWE Dea Norge is currently planning the next operation in this license. Later this year, the company will drill an exploration well on the Atlas prospect, just east of the Skarfjell discovery in PL418. RWE Dea holds a 10 percent share in PL418.

PL420 was awarded on 16 February 2007 (APA 2006). RWE Dea Norge is operator of PL420 with a 30 percent equity. Statoil Petroleum AS holds 40 percent, and Idemitsu Petroleum Norge 30 percent.
