ONGC Videsh (OVL) spudded its first appraisal well - NN-3 (NNCG) in the Najwat Najem structure offshore Qatar on July 6, 2007. The well was spudded by a combined crew of OVL and Aban–VII. The Target Drilling Depth is 7457 feet and is planned to be completed in 44 days.
The Najwat Najem oil structure is located in the Arabian Gulf in Offshore Qatar at a distance of about 100 km North East of Doha Port. It lies at a distance of about 18 km NNW off the Halul Island in State of Qatar. The Jurassic lime stones are the main reservoirs of this structure. This is the first overseas project in which ONGC Videsh Ltd. has both 100% operator and ownership.
OVL carried out G&G studies and firmed up two appraisal locations for evaluating the structure and assessing and proving its commerciality. Pre operations Environmental base line study and Environmental Impact Assessment for the area of appraisal drilling was carried out and submitted to the Supreme Council for the Environmental and Natural Reserves. The comprehensive baseline studies carried out were appreciated by the SCENR and subsequently Environmental Authorization for drilling of the two Exploration wells was given to OVL.
A Pre-spud coordination meeting was convened by Mr. S Roy chaudhury, Executive Director, OVL with an objective of safe and successful completion of the appraisal well drilling project.
